Let's face it, many of us head to the Las Vegas strip for celebrating special occasions or getting together with close friends. We try to cram in as much fun as our time will allow and sometimes that means we don't get enough sleep. That's where MGM Grand Hotel and Casino's Stay Well rooms come into play.

Mgm

Designed as a joint collaboration between Dr. Deepak Chopra, the Cleveland Clinic and real estate company Delos, Stay Well rooms hedge your bets against an over-active weekend. The premise behind the Stay Well concept is to offer hotel guests a complete wellness experience; from a to zzz's – if you get my drift.

Guests opting for the Stay Well suites have their own Stay Well Lounge offering complimentary bottled water and fruit during their visit. As an M Life member, I checked into the hotel using the VIP suite. This proved to be a good move on my part because Kiefer Sutherland was also checking into the MGM during my stay.

Stay Well elevator entrance.

I didn't ask if he selected a Stay Well room, but if he did, it would have included free access to the Fitness Center in the Grand Spa and exclusive spa treatments among other perks.

Then he would have passed through the VIP doors to the Stay Well bank of elevators and onto the 14th floor. Once in his room, he would have noticed the air purification system, designed to reduce smoke and toxins from the air. He could look at the healthy menu options and enjoy the view from his room or he could freshen up in the bathroom with it's vitamin C infused shower and get a boost of energy from the special lighting.

After a night out on the town he'd relax in his king bed with natural memory foam mattress and fresh linens, while surrounded by cedar for preserving his clothing. Down comes the remote controlled black out shade after setting the dawn simulation clock for a gentle wake up in the morning.

He won't find a coffee maker in his room, but he'll have options for fresh juice and plenty of filtered water for staying adequately hydrated, an important feature when in this desert environment. If he wants to continue his stay well experience, he may utilize the Cleveland Clinic's online wellness programs after his stay at the MGM Grand Hotel or he can fall back to sleep because he's opted to take advantage of the hotel's late check out feature.

Fall fast asleep at the MGM Grand Hotel.

MGM Grand Hotel review and all photos by San Francisco-based travel writer Nancy D. Brown. I was a guest of MGM Resorts International while researching additional travel articles.

MGM Grand Las Vegas is undergoing 'The Grand Renovation' which includes an overhaul of everything from the room and suites to a new nightclub. One of the more innovative ideas being introduced are 'Stay Well' rooms that are designed to '… help guests reverse jetlag; reset the body's internal 24-hour clock and regulate melatonin levels to promote better sleep; incorporate an advanced water filtration system which infuses Vitamin C into shower water; and offer healthy food and beverage options' according to a statement release by MGM Grand. Perhaps most surprisingly is these rooms are being offered at a reasonable price and will be included in promotional deals.

Located in the hotel's main tower, the 42 rooms offer 12 health and wellness features including:

· Advanced Room Lighting which improves the body's internal clock by assisting in the regulation of melatonin production and sleep/wake cycles

· Wake Up Light Therapy exposing guests to short periods of blue-shaded lighting to increase energy and reverse the effects of jetlag

· Nightlighting featuring LED lamps designed to illuminate pathways at night without disturbing melatonin levels

· Dawn Simulator Alarm Clocks gradually awakening the body

· Vitamin C Shower Infusion providing shower water infused with Vitamin C which neutralizes chlorine to promote healthy hair and skin

· STAY WELL Air Purification System which is the most advanced HEPA-standard air purification system reduces allergens, toxins and pathogens, creating better air quality and breathing

· Aromatherapy. Optional aroma infusion for STAY WELL guests.

· Water Filtration System to reduce disinfectant byproducts, chlorine, pesticides and some pharmaceutical and personal care products for the cleanest, most purified in-room water

· EMF Protection protecting STAY WELL guests from electrical equipment that emanates sleep-disruptive Electromagnetic Fields (EMF)

· Photo-Catalytic Coating to break down bacteria, virus and VOCs on bacteria-susceptible surfaces

· Cleveland Clinic exclusive access wellness software which includes stress management, sleep and nutrition programs, as well as access to healthy food/drink options developed by the Cleveland Clinic, which guests can use for up to 60 days after their stay

· STAY WELL Channel providing an educational video on the features in the room

Mgm Stay Well Room

Scott Sibella, president and COO of MGM Grand believes health and wellness is something guests do not want to leave behind when on vacation 'We know our guests come to Las Vegas to escape and unwind, but we also know that an increasing number of them are looking to take their wellness lifestyle ‘on the road' as an extension of their daily, healthful lives at home, The STAY WELL rooms at MGM Grand provide an unprecedented opportunity for a complete wellness hotel experience.'

The level of success this initiative will have is going to be interesting to follow. Those already into healthy lifestyles are likely to view this as a necessity and some corporations may even foot the bill for the upgrade for their employees viewing it as a sound investment in health and wellness.

Mgm Grand Stay Well Lounge

Somewhat surprisingly, the rooms are only an additional $30 more than MGM Grand's regular priced rooms. A great deal for a relaxing experience in Las Vegas.
